Dixon Sister Cities – Dixon, Illinois U.S.A.

The Dixon Sister City Association is a non-profit organization consisting of board members and citizens involved in the exchanging of ideas, cultures and people. Dixon, Illinois has participated in several international exchanges since the relationships were forged. Through the years, Dixon, Illinois has benefited from this program by successfully partnering with cities such as Dickson, Russia, Herzberg, Germany, Thika, Kenya and Castlebar, Ireland.

The U.S. sister city program originated in 1956 when President Dwight D. Eisenhower proposed a people-to-people, citizen diplomacy initiative. Originally a part of the National League of Cities, Sister Cities International became a separate, nonprofit corporation in 1967, due to the tremendous growth and popularity of the U.S. program.
